SOME HISTORY: May 1994 - This shows how far we have come - now in 2007 with USB as the standard.
Put simply, most printer manufacturers, for example, H.P, now actually specify that only an IEEE 1284
compliant printer cable must be used with all new printers. The main difference between the cheaper
18 wire cables is that in some cases a signal is sent back to the computer registering the ink levels
on screen, as in newer EPSON printers for example, also these cables have full R.F.I. shielding, that is
to say, a full 360 Degrees of wrap around shield of alloy film as well as additionally, a special braided
wire shield and full connection between the braiding and the metal plugs at either end, thus providing
much better RFI shielding, and thus resulting in a cleaner, faster, more efficient data signal.
